Chinese Numerology and Unusual Dates in Feng Shui

Note: If you are looking for a personalized Birth Date Numerology Analysis, please click here.

Rare Dates
I often receive emails from friends with very good intentions informing me of an upcoming, very rare date that supposedly has important significance in Chinese Numerology and Feng Shui.

For instance, I’ve seen these emails for 8/8/08, 1/1/11, and today, 11/11/11. We will undoubtedly get the same on 12/12/12.

I have also seen emails about how certain months will have five Saturdays, five Sundays, and five Mondays.

Of course, if you forward the email, you will be blessed with fortune.

So, is all of this true?

Differing Calendars
Let me start by reminding everyone that the Ancient Chinese did not use the Gregorian calendar (the one that says that today is 11/11/2011).

Rather, they used a lunisolar calendar sometimes called the Huang Di calendar, akin to the Hebrew and Hindu calendars (some variations might be called Lunar, Chinese, Vietnamese, or Korean calendars).

There is the very simple fact that the Ancient Chinese, the same ones that played a significant role in developing the understanding of Feng Shui and Chinese Numerology over so many centuries, could not have analyzed the Gregorian calendar.

If any of the above dates (or any future ones you receive in an email) happen to be special based upon Chinese Numerology, you can rest assured that it is by mere coincidence.

Lunar Months
Regarding the five Saturdays, Sundays, and Mondays in a month, you should know that Feng Shui and Chinese Numerology have nothing to say about this simply due to the fact that every lunar month is exactly 28 days or 4 weeks.

Moving on, let’s talk about the fact that such an occurrence is really not that rare.

Not So Rare
As an example, take the fact that August in the Gregorian calendar always has 31 days and a week always has seven days. Therefore, that month will always have five Saturdays, five Sundays, and five Mondays any time that the month begins on a Saturday. Rather than occurring once every 800 or so years, this occurs about once every seven years and at most once every eleven years (leap years throw the regularity off a bit).

Real Chinese Numerology
Now I want to give you a much more practical uses of Chinese Numerology and numbers in Feng Shui.

If you are looking for a home to find success or ensure good health, certain house numbers may have such an impact.

If you are looking to find romance or keep a strong relationship with your spouse, be sure to place objects in your bedroom in pairs (two pillows, two candles, etc.)

If you are looking to determine if you and a prospective match are good for each other, you may be able to determine your compatibility based upon your birth dates.

Moreover, if you are looking to see your child’s fortune in his or her different life phases, you may be able to do so based upon their birth date and time.

Feng Shui Regarding Beds for Fertility and Pregnancy

Feng Shui Creativity / Children / Fertility -FertilityImportant Feng Shui fertility bedroom tip: Don’t move the bed of a pregnant woman nor that of a woman who is trying to get pregnant.

Don’t Bump the Bed!
Try to avoid disruptions in and around the bed.

You can hold off on running that loud vacuum under the bed for about 9 months until the baby arrives.

If you do need to clean or move things under the bed, try to do it as gently as possible.

According to Feng Shui, movements around here can disturb the life energy present in the bed that started the conception and new life.

Feng Shui for Fertility: Baby Pictures

Feng Shui Creativity / Children / Fertility -BabyAre you trying to conceive and want to make sure you have a happy, healthy baby?

Dream Baby Pictures
Post pictures of your ideal baby in the Creativity and Children side of your house (more about the Bagua layout of your home here).

I personally had a picture of a little baby playing the drums on this side of my home. It was called Playtime by Keith Baker.

I saw this picture way back when I was only 18 and fell in love with how cute and energetic this little baby was.

So when I found that same picture for sale at a poster sale when I was 24 years old, I had to have it.

Even though I was nowhere close to getting married nor having thoughts about having children, the picture made me smile every time I would look at it.

Many years later, when I was ready to have children, I made sure this picture was hanging in the Creativity & Children Gua of my house.

I boosted up the energy by placing it with a yellow poster border and put it in a metal frame.

Thankfully, it only took a very short amount of time for us to conceive our little boy.

I Want to Bang On the Drums All Day!
Of course, we called him our little drummer boy and our birth announcement was a picture of our son holding drumsticks.

When he was old enough to sit up and bang on those drums, his picture replaced Keith Baker’s picture.

Devyn DrummingBut here’s a little warning to be careful what you wish for.

A few years have passed, but he still loves to bang on those drums, even in the early mornings and late at night.

Update:

So I received an email from Keith Baker, the photographer of the baby drumming picture, Playtime, that I fell in love with and used in my Children & Creativity Gua when trying to conceive.

Interestingly, the picture was of Keith’s son named, of all things, Jesse.

Keith: Thank you so much for emailing me and sharing your story with me. This was a wonderful surprise, thank you so much!

My second son was born last year.  I had used very similar tricks that I did with the first.  He’s approaching the age where he could hold some drumsticks.  Now we just need to find a set for the pictures!

Feng Shui in Your Children’s Bedroom

Feng Shui Creativity / Children / Fertility -ColorsDo your kids have way too much energy or do you have a baby that won’t sleep through the night?

Before getting a prescription for Ritalin, try some of the following Feng Shui techniques in their bedroom to have a happy and healthy child.

Colors
Pay close attention to the colors you choose in your child’s bedroom.

According to Feng Shui, colors in a child’s room should be freeing yet provide feelings of safety.

Use earthy, natural colors such as warm yellows, terracotta, light salmon or soft greens.

It’s very popular today to use wall decorations, but please make sure you avoid bold and strong colors such as fire engine red, strong yellow or royal blue.

Any combination of these colors can make kids restless and make it difficult to get a good night of sleep.

Decorative Objects
Furthermore, be careful about placing too many car, train, or plane decorations in the room.

Naturally, your boys can’t stop and sit down when surrounded by moving things day and night.

Secret Arrows
Avoid wall or other decorations with secret arrows, especially in the baby’s room.

If you have a castle or other wall decorations already in place, try to cut and round off any sharp edges.

Animals
Do not choose images of aggressive or sneaky animals, no matter how cute they look – Tiger and Pooh are good examples.

Try to select something peaceful, with nice round shapes and pleasant colors.

Whatever happened to sleeping lambs or gentle bunnies? Your child will reflect what the images around him project.

Bed Placement
Don’t place the bed or the crib under the window or directly in line with the door.

Just like with your bed, you don’t want it to be in line with the door.

Your first choice would be to have the baby’s or kid’s head up against a solid wall (no windows or doors on that same wall where the headboard is).

Second best would be a wall with a window in it (not right under the window).

Your third choice would be on the same wall as the door.

Mirrors & Shelves
Just like the adult’s room, keep the mirrors away from the room, as this will keep the child awake or restless.

If you can’t remove it, then make sure your child can’t see him or herself in the mirror while going in or out of the bed or while laying in the bed.

Don’t put up too many wall shelves in the bedroom, as they create poison arrows that can point to the child’s bed.

Simplicity is Key
The Golden Rule here is to keep things simple.

You don’t want it too busy in your child’s room because you don’t want them staying up too late, having nightmares, or so charged up that they can’t sit still for 5 minutes.

Have fun making that baby or kid’s room just right!
