Zen Dentist: Feng Shui for a Calming Dental Practice
Dental offices play a crucial role in promoting oral health, but they can also be a source of stress and anxiety for patients. Feng Shui principles can help dental practices create a positive and relaxing experience for patients. Imagine reducing patient anxiety in your dental practice!
My Start in Dentistry
At age 19, I actually worked as a dental hygienist as I studied to become a dentist. My boss decided to remodel his office, and as I watched the designers and contractors lay things out, I felt… something was off. It just didn’t feel right. You see, my mom and grandmother were Feng Shui masters and, evidently, something rubbed off on me.
The designers had planned for the dentist’s office to be right by the entrance to the lobby. This was a busy location where he would overhear everything happening in the waiting room and front office while he tried to take his breaks.
The next day, I convinced the dentist to change the layout by placing his private office in the “power position” at the back of the space, away from the hustle and bustle. Low and behold, I helped Feng Shui the entire practice, and it worked!
The office saw a steady flow of happy patients, insurance claims got paid on time, and everything just seemed to click. More importantly, my boss finally started to feel at ease and began to enjoy his work more. That was the moment I began seeing spaces in a completely new light. Soon enough, my boss’s friends called me for advice about their offices and homes.
Eventually, I put my dentistry career on hold to see where this Feng Shui path could take me. Decades later, here I am, a Feng Shui master. I now work with Fortune 500 clients like MGM Resorts, Lennar, Toll Brothers, KB Home, etc. on residential and commercial projects. I have also been named the Best Feng Shui Consultant. While I miss dentistry, Feng Shui is my calling.
So here are a few tips to improve your dentistry practice:
Front Entrance
One of the key principles of Feng Shui is the placement of the main entrance. The main entrance should be located in a prominent and visible location, making it easy for patients to find and enter the dental office. The entrance should also be well-lit and have a clean and inviting appearance. This creates a positive first impression and sets the tone for the rest of the visit.
Color Choices
Another important aspect of Feng Shui for dental offices is the use of colors. Different colors have different meanings and can evoke different emotions. For example, blue is associated with tranquility and calm, which is important for patients who are feeling stressed or anxious. On the other hand, yellow is associated with warmth and cheerfulness, which can be beneficial for creating a positive and welcoming atmosphere.
Practice Flow
In addition to colors, dental offices should also pay attention to the placement of equipment and machines. According to Feng Shui, you should arrange them in a way that is easy for patients and staff to navigate and use. To achieve this, create clear paths and visual cues that lead patients and staff to different areas of the office.
Keep Patients Separate
It’s tempting to adopt the open concept style of dental practice because it can create some efficiency and save some money in tenant improvements. Don’t skimp on this area – and not just for HIPAA compliance. You should have a separate room for each chair to give patients the feeling of security. This also firewalls them from the potential anxiety of other patients.
Private Office Locations
Be sure to keep private staff offices away from the entry or other high-traffic areas. Employees need time away from the patients and phone calls to recharge. As I mentioned with my dentist, you’ll want to put the private office of the practice owner in the power position at the back of the practice, preferably in the back-left Prosperity Corner.
Next Steps
Feng Shui is a powerful tool that can be used to create a positive and relaxing experience for dental patients. By applying Feng Shui principles, dental offices can promote a sense of well-being for patients and staff. This can lead to a positive impact on patients’ oral health and reduce anxiety. This leads to returning patients and higher profits for the business.

Chi Surge: Concave Mirrors in Feng Shui
In Feng Shui, mirrors are an important tool to balance the energy in your home or office. Concave mirrors look like a ball was used to press a round indentation into the mirror. When you look into them, everything looks smaller in the reflection.
Among the different types of mirrors used in Feng Shui, concave mirrors are particularly powerful tools for amplifying and attracting the flow of energy, or Qi (pronounced “chi”). But when is the best time to use a concave mirror in Feng Shui?
When I work with home builders, we work together to maximize the flow of positive Qi energy. When they build to my recommendations, there really isn’t much of a need for “cure” items like mirrors, crystals, or special colors. Unfortunately, most people live in homes that weren’t built with Feng Shui in mind.
Recessed Doors
In Feng Shui, people most commonly use concave mirrors to address recessed front doors. For some reason, home builders can’t avoid incorporating recessed front doors as a design element. A concave mirror properly placed at the front door will work like a magnet to attract energy so that it can nourish the various Bagua areas of your home.
Front Door Facing the Wrong Direction
You can also use a concave mirror if your front door is not located at the front of the home or office or if it is facing a direction other than towards the street. In this situation, simply place a concave mirror in the spot where you think your front door should be so that it faces towards the street. You can place the mirror either inside or outside of the home or office, as long as it faces outwards.
When NOT to Use a Concave Mirror
While some people say that you could use a concave mirror to amplify the energy of a particular Bagua area or sector, I do NOT agree. I also suggest against using concave mirrors to enhance the energy of a particular element in a room. You should NEVER use a concave mirror to amplify the energy inside of a home or office. Use appropriate alternatives to the situation, like rugs, furniture, crystals, colors, natural elements, etc.
It is important to note that placing a concave mirror in the wrong place can have negative effects. It’s important to consult a qualified Feng Shui practitioner to determine the best placement of concave mirrors in your home or office.
What Concave Mirror Should I Get?
There are several out there but I suggest getting one like this that has a Bagua’s octagonal shape with a circular concave mirror in the middle.
How About Convex Mirrors?
Well, convex mirrors are a whole other subject. They deserved their own blog post.
Next Steps
Concave mirrors are a powerful tool in Feng Shui to redirect and amplify the flow of energy. They’re only a very small part of Feng Shui, however. There is so much more to learn and do to change your life for the better.
In your search for a Feng Shui expert, there are a lot of points to consider. While I would love to be the one you select, make sure you choose someone you are comfortable with.

Using Crystals in Feng Shui
Crystals have been used for centuries as powerful tools for healing, balance, and transformation. In Feng Shui, you can use crystals to enhance the energy of your space and to bring positive change into your life.
Here are a few tips for using crystals in Feng Shui:
- Choose the right crystals: Different crystals have different properties and energies. It’s important to choose crystals that resonate with your goals. Some common crystals used in Feng Shui include quartz, amethyst, and citrine.
- Place crystals in strategic locations: Where you place your crystals can have a big impact on the energy of your space. For instance, place hanging quartz crystals in areas of your home or office where you want to spread energy around, such as in long hallways, when your front door opens to stairs, above your toilet, or when your front and back doors line up.
- Cleanse and charge your crystals: Your crystals will absorb negative energy over time and can lose their potency. You’ll need to regularly cleanse your crystals to maintain their effectiveness. To do this, you can clean them with sea salt water, smudge them with sage, or recharge them in sunlight or moonlight.
- Work with the energy of the crystals: Each type of crystal has its own unique properties. When you work with the energy of a specific crystal, you can amplify its effects to bring about positive change in your life. Amethyst, for example, is often used to promote relaxation and clarity. Citrine is used to attract abundance and prosperity.
By using crystals correctly, you’ll enhance the energy of your space to bring positive changes to your life. Don’t overdo it, though.

Command Position Magic: Feel Secure with Feng Shui
Do you ever get the feeling that someone is watching over your shoulder? Do you fear someone sneaking up on you? Maybe it’s as simple as the layout of your furniture. Feng Shui can help.
What is the Command Position?
I teach my clients that the command position is an important concept in Feng Shui because it influences the energy flow in a space. Simply, where you place furniture in a room will affect your sense of security.
In Feng Shui, you achieve the command position by positioning your furniture like your bed or desk so that you have a clear view of the entrance to the room. By doing so, you’ll have a greater sense of security and control. You’ll see anyone entering the room and will be less likely to get caught off guard.
Commanding the Bedroom
In your bedroom, for example, your bed should be placed diagonally across from the door (not directly in line with the door), with the head of your bed against a solid wall. This allows you to see the door while lying down. It will also provide a sense of support from the solid wall behind you.
In Command of the Office
In your workspace – even your home office – be sure to place your desk so that you have a clear view of the entrance to the room. Again, try to have your back near a solid wall. This will help increase your focus and productivity, as well as reduce distractions and your feelings of unease. I’ll let you in on a secret – it also gives others the feeling that you’re in control.
Other Locations, Too
Wherever possible, try to use the same key concepts with other locations where you relax and work. Think of how you can maximize the use of the command position in your workshop, living room, kitchen, and even your dining room. They call it the head of the table because you see everything from the command position.
Other Command Factors
In addition to furniture placement, other Feng Shui factors like lighting, color, elements, and decor can also influence the command position of your space. Make intentional choices by paying attention to these details so that you’ll feel supported, energized, and empowered.
Simple Feng Shui changes to your environment can have significant results on how you feel in your daily life. Once you understand and apply the concept of the command position in your own home and office, you’ll create a more harmonious and balanced environment that supports your well-being and success.

Have you ever walked into a new environment and immediately felt relaxed and at home? Let’s make that our goal with your everyday spaces like your home and office.
Feng shui is an ancient Chinese practice that focuses on the flow of energy, or qi, in a space. While it is often associated with physical objects in the arrangement of a room or building, feng shui can also have a powerful impact on mental health to improve your well-being. Here are five benefits of adding some feng shui into your home:
- Creates a sense of calm: Feng shui principles emphasize the importance of creating a balanced environment. When you align the energy in your space with these principles, you will create a peaceful atmosphere that helps promote relaxation.
- Increases feelings of happiness: Feng shui techniques that bring in natural light, incorporate natural elements like plants, and use colors that evoke positive emotions can help increase feelings of positivity in a space.
- Promotes feelings of empowerment: The command position in feng shui – the spot that allows you to see the door and have your back to a solid wall – can help you feel in control. This can be especially beneficial for those who struggle with feelings of insecurity.
- Enhances focus: Don’t you love to feel productive? A well-organized space can help improve your focus because it allows for an unobstructed flow of energy. Feng shui techniques that help declutter and organize a space can be very helpful for those who struggle with productivity.
- Improves sleep: The bedroom is an important area in feng shui. It is a place for rest. By using feng shui techniques to create a calming bedroom environment, you can improve the quality of your sleep to wake up feeling refreshed.
What are you waiting for? Start to incorporate some feng shui techniques into your home so you can create a supportive environment that promotes your mental health. Remember to have fun with it because the most important thing is to create a space that feels good to you so that it can support your well-being.
