Chinese Zodiac: Feng Shui Secrets Revealed
What is the Chinese Zodiac? How can I find my Chinese Zodiac Sign? What is my Chinese Zodiac fortune?
By Jessie Kim
The Chinese Zodiac (Sheng Xiao), is based on a twelve lunar year cycle with each year related to a specific animal sign. These animal signs are usually referred to as the rat (mouse), ox (bull or cow), tiger (cat), rabbit, dragon, snake, horse, sheep (goat or lamb), monkey, rooster (chicken), dog and pig (boar).
The Chinese Zodiac is based on the Chinese lunar calendar. Find your Chinese Zodiac sign here.
Origins

Animals in the Chinese Zodiac were established for counting years. Remember that this system pre-dates the current Gregorian calendar. In fact, the Chinese Zodiac was established in the Han Dynasty sometime between 202 B.C. and 200 A.D.
Ancient people, and particularly the Ancient Chinese, had an affinity with the number twelve, as it has astronomical significance.
Each day has 12 time periods (shi chen).
Lunar years have 12 full moons.
Each ji has 12 lunar years.
Over time, it was determined that those born in certain lunar years, lunar months and time periods had certain characteristics.
Put another way, not all who are born in the same year have the same characteristics, obviously. Contrary to what a Chinese food placemat will have you think, the time, month and even which 12-year cycle you were born in have just as much to do with your personality and life fortune as the year in which you were born.
Chinese Zodiac Signs
Each animal sign relates with an earthly branch, so the animal years were called zi rat, chou ox, yin tiger, mao rabbit, chen dragon, si snack, wu horse, wei sheep, shen monkey, you rooster, xu dog and hai pig. Very similar branches are seen in other cultures, including Japan, Korea, Mongolia, Manchuria and Vietnam. Across all of these cultures, they have represented directions, seasons, lunar months and double hours.
Much like western zodiac systems, it is believed that people born under certain Chinese Zodiac animal signs have well-defined characteristics, strengths, weaknesses, best matches and fortunes.

Your Chinese Zodiac is useful in Feng Shui because it can help you determine which areas of the Feng Shui Bagua you should focus on to attract Feng Shui energy (Chi or Qi).
