Can Feng Shui Really Benefit Architecture?
The 3,000-year-old art and science in understanding and working with the flow of energy has several practical applications in architecture.
While an ever-growing Asian population demands projects designed with Feng Shui in mind, the masses can benefit from its application. Here are just a few examples and tips:
- Feng Shui enhances harmony and balance. While those with an understanding of Feng Shui know why this happens, nearly everyone feels more comfortable and secure in a home, office or hotel designed through Feng Shui.
- Feng Shui enhances beauty. Stairs should never be the first thing you see when opening the front door to a home. Front entryways should be well-lit, preferably with water features.
- Feng Shui promotes health. Toilets should be out-of-view and far away from areas like a kitchen. Bedrooms should be away from major sources of electric or magnetic fields to ensure proper rest.
- Feng Shui preserves resources. A well-designed Feng Shui property will have excellent air flow in addition to energy flow. Moreover, a stove should never be in line with opposing doors or windows, which impacts the efficiency of the burners.

I am a certified Feng Shui consultant and experienced real estate investor. Through my firm, Ms. Feng Shui, I provide personalized, professional, in-person and virtual Feng Shui consultations and seminars. I specialize in working with real estate, primarily consulting to home builders on new residential development projects.

Feng Shui Certification of Property
Dependent upon the degree of Feng Shui implementation based upon my consultations, I can provide an official Feng Shui certification of plans or designs. Such a certification will highlight the various aspects of the designs that will provide harmony and balance through Feng Shui.

Architect Training
In addition to design reviews, I can provide Feng Shui training for architects on how to meet Feng Shui guidelines when creating a site plan, building plan, podium-level plan, home/unit design or landscaping design. This training will provide architects fundamental knowledge of Feng Shui across several projects with minimal outside support from a Feng Shui consultant. Site Design Reviews
The layout of buildings along streets and the use of open space is quite important to Feng Shui. Often-referenced concerns include corner lots and T-intersections. To make sure that the overall community designs provide for positive Feng Shui for the builder and future residents, I can provide on-site and remote consultation services to site planners to discuss Feng Shui and its application in building arrangement, open space, hardscaping, streetscaping, etc. I can also provide alternative design suggestions and/or remedies for hazardous elements and can review final site designs. return to top
Building Plan Reviews
It is important to adhere to Feng Shui guidelines when designing anything from a single family residence to apartment buildings to mixed-use high rises. A proper building layout will ensure all areas of the Feng Shui Bagua are present and harmful elements are avoided where necessary. Home/Unit Design Reviews
Home and unit designs that are auspicious for Feng Shui can be quite complex to achieve. Commonly-known designs that are hazardous include front doors that open to stairs, door alignment, and spiral staircases. Landscaping Design Reviews
Landscaping is an overlooked area to Feng Shui in many developments. The use of Feng Shui principles can ensure proper flow of energy through the property, but it is also useful to remedy and compensate for unavoidable hazardous elements in the site plan.
